The Atlantic Ocean. That wild, insidious and merciless mass of water.  An ocean full of mysteries, that inspires fear in those who listen to the stories of the thousands of people that lost their lives in its blue immensity. An ocean that commands respect from those, who every day risk their lives in its waters to make a living. The Atlantic Ocean is, as it would be expected, the conductor, generator and ultimate consequence of this retreat in the coast of the Orkney Islands.

The Cliff House is conceived as a refuge against the harshness of the sea, seeking nothing but to enhance the setting in which it is located. The central idea of the project was to inhabit a grotto, just as the Atlantic puffin does in those latitudes for nesting.  To accomplish this, the house is designed to penetrate the rock as it looks cautiously at the ocean. The completely glazed front, along with the high ceilings and endless courtyard, allow natural light to enter the construction generously. This residence for a family of three people develops its program downwards, placing the most public environments on the upper levels, and the more private ones on  the lower levels. In the interiors, special emphasis was placed on the tectonics and rawness of the materials used, without neglecting new technologies and home automation.

The project is, ultimately, the materialization of the respect, fear, curiosity and devotion that the sea induces in each of us. That actor, that from the beginning of time has determine our fate and still is a stranger to us.

Der Atlantik. Die unzähmbare, tückische und erbarmungslose Wassermasse. Ein geheimnisvoller Ozean, der Angst bei denen auslöst, die die Geschichten von den tausend Menschen hören, die in seiner blauen Unermesslichkeit ihr Leben verloren haben.  Ein Ozean, der Respekt von denen erhält, die je Tag in seinen Gewässern ihre Leben riskieren, um ihre Lebensunterhalt zu verdienen.  Der atlantische Ozean ist, als es erwartet würde, der Leiter, Generator und letzt Konsequenz dieses Haus an der Küste der Orkneyinseln.

Das Haus an der Klippe, das als ein sicherer Hafen gegen die Rauheit des Meers gedacht ist, sucht nur die Umgebung, wo es liegt, zu betonen. Die Leitidee des Projekts war ein Steinspalt zu bewohnen, so wie die Papagaitauchern  in solche Breitengrade in den Brutzeit machen. Um das zu erreichen ist das Gebäude entworfen, um die Felsen einzudringen und gleichzeitlich vorsichtig ins Meer zu schauen. Die vollverglaste Fassade, zusammen mit den hohe Decken und das bodenlose Hof, ermöglicht das Licht großzüzigerweise in die Konstruktion rein. Diese Wohnung für eine Familie mit drei Mitgliedern entwickelt ihrem Programm abwärts. Auf diese Weise würden die öffentlicheren Räume ganz oben liegen, lassen die Privatzimmer in die unteren Geschosse. Das Innere legt den Schwerpunkt auf die Rohheit und Tektonik der Materialen, ohne neue Technik und Hausdomotics zu missachten.

Das Projekt ist im Grunde genommen  die Materialisierung des Respekts, der Angst, Neugier und Hingabe, welche durch das Meer in uns erzeugt werden. Der Akteur, der seit Anbeginn der Zeit unseren Zweck festgelegt hat und der noch  als eine der großen Fremde zu uns bleibt.

Der Ziel des Wettbewerbs war die Entwicklung von neue Möbeln für die außen Bereiche der Architektur Fakultät Madrids. Die Idee der Autoren war von Anfang an ein einzigartiges Möbelstück, statt viele Stücke die zusammenarbeiten könnten. Es war für die Architekten auch klar, dass dieses Objekt keine eckige Form haben sollte. Da es, nicht nur das architektonische Gespräch der Fakultät widersprechen sollte, sonder auch die experimentelle und freie Stimmung ihrer Studenten wiederspiegeln sollte.

Die Verfassern, auch Studenten im ESTAM, haben beschlossen, dass dieses neue Möbel die Studenten außen arbeiten, sowie entspannen und das Wetter genießen, ermöglichen sollte. Die Seele von ALLIUM ist die Leute dazu zu befähigen, wie sie zu verschiedene Zeitpunkte es benutzen wollen, was am Ende des Tages viele unterschiedliche Atmosphären in der gleiche Bereich lassen wird.

Znjan, ein verlassener Strand, hat immer ein Streitpunkt für das Rathaus Splits gewesen. In der Nähe des Campus der Universität und eine Reihe  4-Sterne-Hotels wie Radisson, wird dieser Strand jetzt als eine Parkfläche genutzt. Es kann jedoch ein wichtiger Bereich werden, der nicht nur Business katalysieren könnte, sondern auch einen großen Teil des Stadtlebens. In Rahmen des Masterplans sollte am Westend ein Konzerthaus stattfinden, in dem auch Kongresse und Events unterbringen könnten. Von Anfang an war es eindeutig wichtig, ein Gebäude zu entwerfen, das als ein Symbol des Stadts anerkannt werden kann. Ein Leuchtfeuer mit Blick auf die Adria.

Ein Stein aus der Weltraum, der einmal kalt und tot war, aber jetzt lebensvoll ist. Die Öffnungen im Meteorit werden als Foyers genutzt, die durch den inneren Stollen in die Höhlen einführen. In dem bis zum 800 Leute ein Hans Zimmer Konzert genießen kann oder eine Diskussion über Neurologie mitteilen kann. Der Stein schläft nie, nicht einmal wenn es keine Veranstaltungen gibt. Da den Roof-Top hat sich als einer der drei besten Orte in Split gefestigt, um etwas zu trinken, während der Himmel über die entfernten kroatischen Inseln orange wird.

Sunrise, the warmth of the Andalusian sun wakes everyone up. It is just about time to enjoy a Mediterranean breakfast while the morning breeze still blows softly. After that, nothing compares to swimming in an infinity pool and sunbathing until lunch time. At that time, the smell of food grilling in the barbacue comes swiftly from the northern courtyard. Food will be served under the building shadows, hiding from the midday sun. After a customary siesta, a quick trip to the shore will be followed by a work out session and 20 minutes in the sauna to get ready for dinner. Salmorejo, Huelva shrimps and red tuna from Cádiz will delight everyone while the sun sets behind the hills. Later on, the time to grab a drink and dance the night away has come.

Mountain, nature, and sea describe Granada, and that is the place where this unique house is built. It is conceived as an escape from Madrid’s stressful way of living. The owners were looking for a safe haven, in their hometown, to relax away from hustle and bustle of big city life. This Oasis had finally taken place in Nerja and the form of a 1.200 m² holiday residence. The relationship between the concrete platforms and the morphology always enables the best views of the valley in which the house sets. Thus, relax and calm will be the main two characters in the play, as so as the sea will always be the background of this retreat.

Die Zukunft ist ungewiss, aber vielleicht ist eines klar. Der Weg, den wir als Spezies eingeschlagen haben, führt uns in unser Verderben.

Die Prognose der Vereinten Nationen über die Aufsteigung der Weltbevolkerung, sollte allen erschrecken. Ab 2050 sollen zehn Milliarden von Menschen die Erde durchstreifen und zwei Drittel davon werden in Städte wohnen. Die Erweiterung der Megastädte wird zum Verlust von weiteren 20% des natürlichen Lebensraums die Erde führen.

In der folgender Arbeit werden die möglichen Konsequenzen der heutigen Lebensweise als Kritker untersucht, um daran zu erinnern, was auf uns wartet. Es ist vielleicht nicht zu spät um die Uhren zurückzudrehen.

In dem Versuch, die Komplexitäten der zukünftigen Gesellschaften herauszufinden, hat der Architekt in eine Gemeinschaft innerhalb einer Brücke entwickelt. Diese Gemeinschaft ist das Ergebnis der Konvergenz von Metabolismus und Situationismus. Diese beiden architektonischen Strömungen, waren einmal entgegengesetzt, aber jetzt werden sie kombiniert um eine völlig neue Gesellschaftsart zu unterstützen, die sogenannten Technium-Generationen.

Znjan, a deserted beach, has always been an issue to cope with for Splits cityhall in Croatia. Close to campus and to a bunch of 4 stars hotels like Radisson, this beach is currently used as a parking lot, but it has the potential to become an important area which not only catalyzes business but also leverages a great part of the city life. As part of the masterplan a concert hall, which could also host summits and events, was planned to take place at the western end. Since the very beginning it was important to design a building capable of being recognized as a symbol of Split, a beacon facing the Adriatic Sea.

A stone from outer space that was once cold and dead, is now full of life. The openings of the meteorite, work as foyers that lead through the inner galleries to the caves, where up to 800 people could enjoy a Hans Zimmer concert. The rock doesn’t sleep, not even when there are no events, because the rooftop café has consolidated itself as one of Split’s top 3 places to grab a drink while the sky turns orange over the croatian islands far away.

 

The future is uncertain, but perhaps one thing is clear; the path we have taken as species is leading us to our doom.

United Nation’s predictions about population growth should give everyone pause. Ten billion people are expected to roam the Earth by 2050 and, two-thirds of those will live in cities. The expansion of mega-cities will translate into the loss of another 20% of earth’s natural habitat.

The following work explores the potential consequences of today’s way of living, as a critic, as a reminder of what awaits. Perhaps it is not too late to turn the clock back.

In an attempt to explore the complexities of future societies, the author has designed a community within a bridge. This community is the result of the convergence of metabolism and situationism. These two architectural currents, were once opposite but now are combined to sustain a completely new type of society, the so called technium generations.

The goal of the competition was to design urban furniture to be installed in the outdoor areas of Madrid’s School of Architecture.  The authors’ plan called for a single, unique piece of furniture, rather than a group of several pieces working together, because that seemed to blend better with the type of outdoor space.

The designers, also students at the School, decided that this new furniture should allow students to work outside as well as to relax and enjoy the sun. ALLIUM is a project thought to enpower the users to decide how to use the piece in different moments in time, so that they can create different atmospheres within the same space at every time.
